An update

Considerable time has elapsed since my last post, so there are a few things to report and my apologies for a crazy long post. First, a lot of folks ask what I’m up to. Basically I’ve been slammed for six months doing Flash work and pursuing various personal projects. Freelance-wise I’ve been working with Estée Lauder, Aveda, Clinique, and Bumble and Bumble. Contract prevents me from posting specific URLs, and to an extent therein lies my diminishing motivation to blog. I can’t really trumpet what I’m working on so my trumpet is rusty.

Looking a bit ahead to the rest of the year and out through 2009, a few goals inhabit my list which I’m eagerly working toward.

Relaunching a rebranded site is at the top of my extra-freelance goals. The site that you are looking at now was one of my earliest CSS efforts from a couple of years ago. It’s not bad but it’s so outdated. And because I learned a lot in designing and developing some CSS side projects (like Tickerville), I’m eager to apply toward something that makes people say “oh wow, nice site.” But as per usual it’s not about looks completely. The new site will be a complete shift in emphasis from my occasional work to industry or creative topics which I find interesting enough to write about.

After the relaunch, I’ll use the new site as a platform to get more involved with my industry. I’ll discuss Web design trends and developments, my workflow and whatever else I think will add value to a freelancer’s limited time.

My commercial goals remain simple… do the best work I can with the best people I can. That’s what I have now with my clients and I don’t plan to diverge from that. The work is consistent and interesting, the people are wonderful, and the planning is aces… that’s all a freelancer can really hope for. It was a long, difficult road getting the kind of work I was after but now that I’m here I just want to keep things simple. Also my new MacBook Pro is a definitely plus in terms of the ability to work on the road so I may drop into NYC for a few weeks this year to work with some colleagues.

I’ll continue to inhabit Lexington, Kentucky for at least the next three years. My wife’s residency here at the university doesn’t currently offer flexibility in this way. So it’s horses and bourbon and SUVs everywhere for a while longer. I’ve made some great friends here so I’m not at all at odds with my geographic situation.

Thanks for stopping by. Please make it a great day.
